Spray foam insulation in Carson City NV - a sealed attic and a plan for your time away

Hot upstairs or a drafty house? Our crew seals and insulates in one pass, and we plan your time out of the house with you.

A worker in protective gear sprays foam insulation into the cavities between exposed wall studs.

Is spray foam the right fix for a drafty Carson City house?

Spray foam insulation is foam sprayed into your attic, walls or crawl space, and in a Carson City home it insulates and closes the air leaks behind drafty rooms in the same job, so the drafts don't need a second fix.

Most calls start with a room that won't stay comfortable, like the hot upstairs bedroom, the cold room over the garage or cold floors over the crawl space, along with a power bill that keeps creeping up. Usually the cause is air slipping through gaps the old insulation never covered, and that's where foam does its best work, because it fills those gaps while it insulates.

The price mostly moves with how much space you want covered, which foam goes in and how thick, and whether old insulation has to come out first. The schedule turns on finding a day when everyone can be out of the house and on any permit your job needs, and I'll give you your own figure after I've looked at the space with you.

What happens when you call us about spray foam?

Here's who you'll deal with from the first call to the finished job. Call (775) 227-5588 or use the form below to get started.

Most of the time, I'm the one calling back

When you call or send a request, it's usually me who gets back to you to set up a visit. Then I come out myself with a flashlight and a tape measure and look at the attic, crawl space or walls with you, which beats my old desk job by a mile.

An estimate that explains what I found

I tell you what I see up there and go over it with you before you decide anything, because I'd rather explain too much than leave you wondering. We've been doing this since 2017, and that conversation is still the part of the visit I care most about.

A lead installer runs your job

If you go ahead, our installers prep the space, do the work with a lead installer running the job, clean up after themselves, and then I walk you through what we did. We're fully licensed and insured. The Nevada State Contractors Board licenses contractors by classification, which shows the type of work each one is allowed to do.

How we do spray foam insulation, and what comes before it

Spray foam means you'll be out of the house for a while, so before we pick a day we talk through where you'll stay and any health worries at home. On the job, we start by checking what's already up there, because foam sprayed over old insulation that got soaked or filled with droppings just seals the problem in, so that material comes out first. Then the foam goes into the gaps around can lights, pipes and the attic hatch as well as across the open space, since one missed opening leaves the whole job fighting a draft. We keep the edges as full as the middle and leave the eave vents clear in an attic that's meant to breathe, so moisture doesn't end up in the framing.

Spray foam isn't always the answer, and I'll tell you when it isn't. Foam costs more and seals air while it insulates, which is usually worth it when your ductwork lives up in the attic, but otherwise sealing the gaps and topping up with blown-in insulation, loose fill blown through a hose, usually wins. Either way, it's part of the bigger attic insulation picture I look at when I'm up there.

  • Your time away from home planned with you before the spray day
  • Soaked or dirty old insulation checked and pulled out before foam goes in
  • Gaps around can lights, pipes and the attic hatch sealed as we spray
  • Full coverage out to the edges, with eave vents left clear where the attic needs them
  • A straight answer when blown-in would do the job for less

How a spray foam job comes together

Most of the work happens before anyone sprays a thing, because the right foam and the right day matter as much as the spraying.

  1. Measure what's already there

I check how many inches of old insulation are up there, how old the house is and where the ductwork runs, because those things decide whether foam makes sense at all. The room over the garage and the crawl space get the same look.

  2. Match the foam to the space

Open-cell and closed-cell handle moisture differently, and some products need a covering at the roof, so we settle which foam, how thick and whether that covering is part of the job before you sign off. The questions below go into that choice.

  3. Clear the way and close it off

You move what's stored near the hatch or along the walls we're spraying, and we cover what stays and close off the work area so the spray goes where it's meant to. Pets need a plan for the day too, same as the people.

  4. Spray, cure and air out

Our lead installer runs the crew while the foam goes on, and then it needs time to cure and the house needs airing out before anyone comes back. We go by the product's own re-entry time, which tells you when it's safe to come home, not a guess.

Spray foam questions we hear in Carson City

How much does spray foam insulation cost in Carson City?

Spray foam insulation in Carson City usually costs about $2 to $5 per square foot of area sprayed, and that's the going rate around here, not a quote from us. Your own number comes from the on-site estimate, once I've seen how much space there is and what's already in it.

How long do we have to stay out of the house after spray foam?

Plan on at least 24 hours away, which is the minimum consumer safety guidance gives for spray foam. The safe time to come back varies with the product, the kind of house and whether children or older relatives live there, and EPA guidance says to wait until the foam has cured and the house has been aired out and cleaned, so line up a place to stay before we set the day. If anyone at home has asthma, respiratory allergies, a skin condition or a past reaction to isocyanates, the chemicals in spray foam, the guidance says to look over the product information carefully, and a different insulation may suit your house better.

Should I choose open-cell or closed-cell spray foam?

Pick the foam that suits how moisture moves in that space, because open-cell is excellent at stopping air but lets vapor through, while closed-cell foam, the dense kind, blocks moisture too. In a vented attic, federal energy guidance has open-cell working as the air barrier at 5.5 inches or more and closed-cell at 1.5 inches or more, so ask any contractor which thickness their quote assumes. On a worn roof, closed-cell sprayed at the roof can hide a leak because water won't pass through it, which is why I look at the roof before suggesting it.

Does spray foam in the attic need a fire barrier?

It can, because some foam makers require a thermal or ignition barrier, a protective layer over the foam, when it's sprayed at the roof. Ask whether a quote includes that covering when the product calls for one, since two quotes only compare fairly when they cover the same job. When the foam maker requires it, we include it in ours.

Who can file a building permit application in Carson City?

In Carson City, only the property owner, an authorized agent or a licensed contractor can legally sign and submit a building permit application. As your licensed contractor, we can sign and file it for you when your job needs one.

Permits and paperwork for spray foam in Carson City

In Carson City, the Building Division issues construction permits, and altering an existing house means submitting documents through its online portal. The rules differ between Carson City, the counties and the cities around us, so we check with the office that covers your address, and if your job needs a permit, we take care of the paperwork. Nevada also revised its building energy code in 2025, one more reason we check the current rules instead of going from memory.

We're based in Carson City and work across the cities around it, from Reno and Sparks down to Gardnerville and up to Incline Village, plus plenty of places in between. The calls sound a lot alike wherever we go, usually an older house with a few tired inches in the attic or a room over the garage nobody wants to sit in, and the job starts the same way, with a look at what's already up there.
