Who we are and how we got here

Most of our calls come from homeowners with a cold room or a drafty house, and some come from landlords and business owners. People tell us they like that we explain what's going on in the house before we touch anything, and that I'll say so when a house doesn't need what someone's trying to sell. You can read more about J&K and how we work.

About our business

I traded an office chair for a flashlight and a tape measure after years at a desk, and I haven't missed a single meeting since. I learned the trade on an insulation crew around Carson City and started J&K in 2017, and we're fully licensed and insured.

Insulation contractor services in Carson City, NV

J&K Carson City Spray Foam Insulation is an insulation contractor in Carson City with 16 services, from attics and walls to crawl spaces, foam and removal, so the fix fits your house instead of the other way around. The price mostly turns on how much is already up there, whether old material has to come out first, how many gaps need sealing and whether foam or blown-in suits the space. The schedule turns on the same things, plus anything we find that should be fixed before insulation covers it. When I come out for the estimate, I go over what I found with you before you decide anything.

  1. A worker in protective gear sprays foam insulation into the cavities between exposed wall studs.

    Spray foam insulation

We spray foam into attics and walls, where it expands into the gaps and seals air while it insulates. It fits tight spots loose fill can't reach.

  2. Pink fiberglass batts fill the rafters of a vaulted room under construction, with exposed wooden framing and blue electrical boxes.

    Attic insulation

Hot upstairs or a cold bedroom? We check how many inches are already in your attic, seal the gaps, then bring it up to an even depth.

  3. Attic floor covered in loose white blown-in insulation between exposed wooden roof trusses.

    Blown-in insulation

Blown-in insulation is loose fill we blow through a hose, so it settles around joists and wires and reaches the edges of the attic, not just the middle.

  4. Loose-fill insulation covers the floor of a low crawl space beneath wooden beams and concrete supports.

    Home insulation

Not sure where the cold is coming from? We look over the attic, walls and crawl space and tell you which part of the house needs work first.

  5. Crawl space with white insulation covering the ceiling and black plastic vapor barrier across the floor.

    Insulation removal

Old insulation that got soaked or filled with droppings has to come out before new goes in, or the problem stays. We vacuum it out and haul it off.

  6. A crawl space has white plastic sheeting across the floor and walls beneath exposed floor joists and ductwork.

    Crawl space insulation

Cold floors usually start in the crawl space underneath. We insulate under there so the rooms above stop losing their warmth through the floor.

  7. Wall framing with brown insulation batts and pink fiberglass insulation visible in an unfinished room.

    Wall insulation

We fill empty or thin walls, usually through small holes we patch afterward, so you don't have to open up the drywall in every room.

  8. Exposed attic framing surrounded by yellow spray foam insulation, with pipes and ductwork crossing the space.

    Air sealing services

Drafty house? Air sealing closes the gaps around pipes, wires, outlets and doors that let outside air leak in, so the heat you pay for stays inside.

  9. Worker in protective clothing sprays white foam insulation onto an attic roof between wooden rafters.

    Basement insulation

We insulate basement walls and the wood framing that sits on the foundation, for anyone who wants a chilly basement they'll actually use.

  10. White closed-cell spray foam fills the spaces between exposed wooden wall studs.

    Closed-cell foam insulation

Closed-cell foam is a dense, rigid foam that keeps moisture from passing through, so we use it where damp is a worry, like crawl spaces and basements.

  11. An unfinished attic with exposed framing and open-cell spray foam covering the walls and roof.

    Open-cell foam insulation

What's open-cell foam? It's a softer, lighter spray foam that seals air and dulls noise, and it suits walls and rooflines that stay dry.

  12. A narrow commercial room has white spray foam covering its walls and ceiling, with fluorescent lights overhead.

    Commercial insulation

For landlords and business owners, we insulate shops, offices and rental buildings, and we plan the work around tenants and business hours.

  13. A worker in protective coveralls sprays foam insulation into the wall cavity of an unfinished home.

    Crawl space vapor barrier

A crawl space vapor barrier is heavy plastic sheeting we lay over the dirt so ground moisture stays down there instead of rising into the floor framing.

  14. A crawl space vapor barrier covers the floor and foundation walls around support piers, with a dehumidifier at right.

    Vapor barrier installation

Does your house need a vapor barrier? We install them in walls and basements where damp air could reach the framing, and we'll tell you when one isn't needed.

  15. Pink insulation fills the roof framing above exposed black trusses and silver HVAC ducts in a large building.

    Attic air sealing

Before we add insulation, we seal the holes in the attic floor around can lights, pipes and the hatch, so warm air quits leaking up through them.

  16. Loose-fill insulation blankets an attic floor beside a measuring stick and flexible ventilation ducts.

    Retrofit insulation

Retrofit work means insulating a house that's already built and lived in, usually an older home with thin or missing insulation in the walls and attic.

Why people hire J&K

A lot of insulation gets sold before anyone has really looked at the house. We do it the other way around, and we back all of it with one promise, your satisfaction, guaranteed.

  • I do the estimate visit myself

I go up in the attic or under the house with you and show you what I see. If your house only needs a little, I'll tell you that, even when it makes for a small job.

  • We look for what shouldn't get buried

Before any insulation goes in, we check for old wiring, roof leaks and fans venting into the attic. If we find one, we tell you what to fix first, because covering it up just hides the problem.

  • Leaks sealed before insulation goes in

Insulation can't do much with air blowing straight through it. We seal the leaks first, so the money you spend shows up as a warmer house.

  • One honest opinion, not one product

We do foam, blown-in, crawl spaces and removal, so we've got no reason to push one thing on every house. Call (775) 227-5588 or send us a note through our contact page to get that opinion for yours.

We do it in the right order

We work in a set order, because most insulation jobs that go wrong went wrong in the order. Anything that has to come out comes out first, then we seal the gaps, then the new insulation goes in just as deep at the edges as in the middle, with the vents along the eaves where the roof meets the walls kept clear so the attic can still breathe and the framing stays dry.

People ask me about foam a lot, which makes sense with it right there in our name. Foam costs more and seals air while it insulates, but for most attics I'd still rather seal the gaps and top up with blown-in, because that usually does the job for less, and foam earns its price when your ductwork runs through the attic. If we do spray foam, you, the kids and the pets stay out until the re-entry time, the wait before it's safe to come back inside, and we'll give you that time before the job starts.
